Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

Now that you've embraced the beauty and tradition of Andean wool, it's important to know about care and preservation. Follow some simple maintenance tips and you can ensure that your blanket or poncho keep you comfy for seasons to come!

1. Gentle Cleaning: To keep your Andean wool blanket or poncho in pristine condition, it's best to spot clean it when needed. Use a mild detergent and lukewarm water to gently blot and clean any stains. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing, as this can damage the delicate fibers.

2. Air Out: Periodically, allow your blanket to breathe by hanging it outdoors on a sunny day. This helps eliminate any odors and refreshes the wool fibers. Just be mindful not to expose it to direct sunlight for extended periods, to avoid fading.

3. Proper Storage: When not in use, store your Andean wool blanket or poncho in a cool, dry place. Consider placing cedar blocks or lavender sachets nearby, as these natural repellents will help protect your cherished textile.

Note: Hang ponchos on a wide hanger, do not fold.

4. Hand or Machine Wash: You can hand wash or machine wash your blanket. If you machine wash, use a very gentle cycle with cold or luke-warm water. You can also soak your blanket or poncho in cool water with a wool-friendly detergent for 30 minutes. Avoid using hot water, bleach, or fabric softener.

Ponchos -- We recommend Dry Cleaning or Hand Washing in a Mild Detergent. Just like you would would you're favorite wool sweater. :-) Dry flat on-top of a large towel. - Use a Garment Steamer on occasion to help reshape and correct any possible wrinkles.

5. Drying: Best to Hang-Dry blankets in a shaded area away from direct sunlight and heat. You can also reshape the blanket while it's damp. A few minute / low-temper spin alone in the dryer afterwards will not hurt. Do not put ponchos in the dryer!

6. Professional Cleaning: For deep cleaning, it's advisable to seek professional dry cleaning services that specialize in wool textiles. They have the expertise to maintain the quality and color of your Andean wool blanket and poncho.
